Check the format and architecture first
Check with the plugin manufacturer whether a suitable VST3 version for Apple Silicon or arm64 is available. An AU or AAX file is not a VST3 plugin. A file offered exclusively for Intel does not confirm native compatibility with your setup either.
Also check the manufacturer’s supported macOS version and any required activation. External plugins have their own licences; your WaveDesk licence does not include them automatically. The binding requirements for WaveDesk itself are listed in the relevant Softdeck offer.
Install the plugin and check search paths
Install the plugin using the installation method provided by the manufacturer. For a custom installation, note which folder contains the VST3 file. Do not randomly move individual parts of a plugin package, as additional content or activation files may be required.
Open the plugin manager in WaveDesk and check the search paths. A correctly installed plugin must be in a scanned path to be found. Then use the available search or scan function and check whether it appears in the appropriate category.
Use instruments and effects correctly
A VST3 instrument belongs in the instrument slot of an instrument track. It receives note information and generates audio. Select the MIDI input and test a single note before starting a full arrangement.
A VST3 effect belongs in an appropriate insert or effects path. An EQ or compressor needs an audio signal to process. If an effect is silent, first check whether audio is reaching it and whether the correct channel is selected.
Perform a reproducible functional test
Test a new plugin in a simple project first. Choose a preset, play a short part and check input and output levels. Save and reopen the project to check whether the sound state is restored as expected.
Save frequently used tools as favourites in the Plugin Manager. Categories and search paths help you find instruments and effects again. If problems occur, document the plugin name, manufacturer, architecture, macOS version and affected workflow.
When a plugin does not appear or remains silent
Not found? First check that the VST3 version is actually installed, its folder is included in the scan, and its architecture is compatible. Check with the manufacturer whether activation or an additional installation is required. Renaming a file's extension does not create a compatible plugin.
Found, but no sound? Check the instrument slot, MIDI input, track level and output assignment. For effects, check the incoming audio signal. If only one particular plugin causes problems, compare it with a WaveDesk instrument and save the project before making further changes.
